Adventures in Re-fashioning

Last night I was sitting in a hot tub soaking up some much needed girl time, when my jam came on. Thrift Shop by Macklemore has been dubbed my song by my friends due to my penchant for thrift shopping; which led Buffy to tell me all about this new blog she found from a lady called the Refashionista. The what!? This sweet-ass gal takes things she buys for a dollar at the thrift store and turns it into things you’d buy for thousands! Yup! That is my kinda gal. (Disclaimer: I don’t actually know that she has a sweet-ass, it’s just an expression. ;-) )

Tonight, after reading about a dozen or so entries, I was massively inspired to refashion everything in my closet, but decided I should start small. Needless to say, she is my new favorite blog! Hooray!!

   Let’s start with this:

90′s skirt, collecting dust in my closet.

My brother bought this as a gift for my 20th birthday. I haven’t worn it in a good couple of years, but for whatever reason couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it. Thank God! It’s from

and it’s made out of this super soft charcoal colored sweater material. At first I was thinking of turning it into a shorter skirt, but that presented the task of having to gather, then sew, which I figured would be an unflattering fit in the end. Then I just pulled it up to my chest, and the idea for a sweater dress was born. I have been wanting a sweater dress for so long, but I haven’t found anything I was really crazy about, so I’ve remained sweater dress-less. Until now.

   A little liquid inspiration:

A little tune-age:

Thanks, iPhone, for picking the perfect song!

   And we’re off!

Seam rippers rock my world!

After taking out the stitching, I simply sewed up the side slits. Easy peasy. Now I have a super cute sweater dress!! At some point, I will need to replace the elastic, and maybe add some darts around the waist, but it’s wearable right now.

Thank you, Refashionista!! I heart you!!

Happy New Year!

With a new year come new resolutions, new expectations and new motivation. This year, for me, will be all about health. Once and for all I plan on kicking my health problems in the ass, and just kicking them out in general. In order to do this, I will be adopting a vegan version of the Eat-Clean Diet. In a nutshell, no alcohol, no sugar, (not even honey or agave) no dairy, eggs or seafood and absolutely nothing processed. I will also be starting my workouts again, after almost a whole month off. My goal is to eliminate the pain that I’ve had in my knees since I was 17 or 18 (I’m 33), get rid of the excruciating cramps I currently experience once a month (since I started my period), clear up my skin, and have more energy, stamina and clarity. Fitness wise, I’d like to be able to do a normal squat in six months. One where my knees don’t hurt, crackle and severely object to the movement.

My dreams have also been renewed. I will not give up. I may never stop pursuing them. I feel God has put these dreams in me for a reason. He will not let these promises fall flat. I know He already has everything worked out. I now have the courage to follow whatever that may be.

So for now, keep dreaming everyone! Dreams are our fuel for greatness. Dreams keep life interesting. God makes dreams reality.

24 Style

This conversation took place between 7:20pm & 7:30 pm.

Janelle and I were sitting in the (very crowded) sauna tonight after our workout, just laughing and being our amazing selves, when this rando guy starts talking about how much he hates his new Samsung Galaxy S3. After a few laughs, kind of at his expense without him knowing it, we somehow start talking about the fact that the current generation won’t know about writing girls’ numbers on a napkin. Then I jokingly said that they will probably have an iNap instead and proceeded to give the tagline for iNap, “Got a boogie? There’s a nap for that!” Youarewelcome. Someday, this WILL be a thing.

The A Team

I’m at Janelle’s new boy friend’s house for a game night. I.am.the.only.single.
I feel sad and hopeful all at once, but sometimes I wonder why I hold on to the hopeful part. I must smile. I must pretend I don’t want to cry.
In the meantime, check out this video:

I’m currently at Just Brakes having my free brake pads put on, (Yay, lifetime brakes!) and inhaling WAY more second hand cigarette smoke than I’d ever like to again in my life.
Just went in to use the bathroom and LO AND BEHOLD! It is, in fact, the most disgusting bathroom I have ever used!!!
I am aware that may be TMI, but what else is a blog for, if not TMI? Thank God there was toilet paper, because other than extreme filth, there wasn’t much else. I had to practically wrap the toilet seat in TP just to make a suitable place to squat over. No hand soap for you! No paper towel for you! (That’s the bathroom Nazi in my head.)
Well, if you need me, I’ll be slowly dying by way of second hand smoke fumes. Seriously! This getting out of control!

Ruby Sparks

We write to inspire. To evoke emotion. To entertain. We write hoping it will make someone, somewhere stop and say, “Wow!”

This is that movie. This is the movie you wish you wrote.

Ruby Sparks is about a young writer who dreams up his ideal girl. He starts feverishly writing about her, and one day, she appears out of nowhere. After confirming to himself that she is, in fact, real and that he’s not the only one who can see her, a romance ensues. It is never typical, although to my writer mind there were a few predictable moments. It is such a fresh script and so well acted. Zoe Kazan wrote the screenplay and co-stars with Paul Dano. I am just so impressed with her right now. They invite you into their little world and you gladly follow. There is just about every underlying relationship theme present here, but not in an overwhelming sense. It is all tied together with a very satisfying ending. It’s good to see that there is still some wonder left in Hollywood. This is a definite must see. I love this movie.

Ruby Sparks hits theaters officially this Friday. (August 3, 2012) If you’re in Denver, you can check it out here.

I feel like an idiot

Last night I went out with some friends to celebrate the end of the semester. We had a couple of margaritas at one of my favorite places, Jose O’Sheas, then went to one of the girls sister’s house to drink wine and sit in the hot tub. Oh, and smoke flavored tobacco out of a hookah.

This is why I feel stupid. After drinking and sitting in the hot tub, we’re all hanging out in the living room. I’m laying halfway on one end of the couch petting the dog. I then try to sit up, knocking the damn hookah off the coffee table somehow. My first thought is not, ‘get out of the way of the blazing hot coal coming right for you, Sadie!’ No, my first thought is, ‘oh shit, catch it so it doesn’t ruin her sister’s coffee table, couch or wood floor.’ So now I have a nice little scalded area on my left hand. It’s disgusting, so I won’t post a picture. Hurt like a fucking bitch! Dumbass.

Orabrush!!

I cannot believe I am so late jumping on this bandwagon, but seriously! If you don’t have one of these things yet, do it now!! I am absolutely a huge fan! Here, watch the video real quick like:

Orabrush

Amazing, right!? You can get your first one for FREE! You just pay for shipping and handling. Add the tongue foam, and you’ll still only pay a little over $8. No, they’re not paying me to say this. I swear! I LOVE this product!

It tickles a little, at first, but when you’re done your tongue feels like a brand new tongue. Makes me wanna kiss someone. Any volunteers?? ;-)

Lime-a-what?

Lime-a-rita! But don’t get too excited. These things sound like more fun than they are.

Don't do it!!

I went to two different liquor stores to find one to try before my camping trip this weekend. I figured if I liked it, then it would be my drink this weekend. It’s a slightly fizzy mixture of Bud Light Lime and Margarita. It doesn’t taste so great and the aftertaste is actually slightly metallic. I don’t even think I would drink this if it were the only thing around, and that’s saying something! Come to think of it, I’m not a HUGE fan of Bud Light Lime, but I will actually drink that if there’s nothing else around. Although the lime tastes very manufactured, and for my money, I’d rather have a Corona with real lime. Or a Margarita. Or both. But not ever in the same glass. Never again.
